I’m focusing my research at the moment on this little plaque that can be found outside the City Centre One Stop Centre on St George’s Street where you can now get services to help you with benefits, car parking services, council tax bills, housing, jobs and social services. However 100 years ago you would be at the forefront of public education in the city. An extract from Derek Fraser’s “A history of modern Leeds” states that –
Board schools, which Central Higher Grade School started off as, were this countries first true state education and I am really interested in learning more about them and how this one became so huge so quickly in Leeds.
Any useful pointers gratefully received!
